8 Reasons to Study in Newcastle

We don’t think it’ll take much convincing if you’re thinking about studying in Newcastle, but if you’re needing that extra push, well… here it is!

Is Newcastle a good place to go to university? The answer is YES, of course it is! Newcastle is home to two reputable universities – Northumbria University and the Newcastle University. BUT, there’s more to it than that.

Here are 8 reasons to study in Newcastle:

1. The student community

You’ll be surrounded by likeminded students from all across the globe. Picture yourself submerging into a diverse and culture driven community that’s accepting of everyone. Sounds good, right? Well that’s exactly how you should picture Newcastle, it has a unique sense of belonging for everyone.

2. Vibrant nightlife

It’s no lie that Newcastle is a party city – a night out is for everyone! If you enjoy going out-out, hit the toon with your uni friends and have some of the best nights out you’ll ever experience.

3. Everything is within a close proximity

You’ll never be far from shops, pubs, bars, restaurants or whatever else you’ll be getting up to. PS. If you choose to stay at Oxford House, you’ll be just a 5 minute walk away from Northumbria University or an 8 minute walk away from Newcastle University.

4. Bursting with small businesses

If supporting local businesses is your thing then you’ll have no issue doing that in Newcastle! From independently owned clothes shops, to restaurants, to selfie studios, to bakeries and much more – supporting local in Newcastle is definitely a thing. The indoor Grainger Market or the Tynemouth Market are great places to start!

5. Close to libraries

There are LOADS of libraries in Newcastle which is a huge benefit for students. As you may, or may not know, the library will become your best friend when you’re at university so it’s useful to have them on your doorstep!

6. Tasty food/plenty of restaurants

Now were not entirely sure about you, but food is a MASSIVE factor when it comes to decision making for us. If we’re not surrounded by freshly baked pastries, loaded cheese nachos or chocolate and strawberry waffles then we don’t want it! It’s such a good job that Newcastle is bursting at the seams with delicious eateries.

7. The sights/architecture

From unique bridges to breath-taking scenery, there will always be something new to discover in Newcastle! You can take walks with your flatmates along the River Tyne, or waterfall walks at Jesmond Dene. Or maybe if walking isn’t your thing, you could take a picnic to one of Newcastle’s stunning parks.

8. There are plenty of things to do when you might be on a tighter budget!

From free museums, to walks around parks, to beach trips (you heard that right, we’re not too far from the coast) – you’ll never be short of activities to do when your budget can’t take you very far! You’ll NEVER be bored.
