10 Tips to make your New Year's Resolutions stick

Sticking to your New Year goals can be hard, but don't worry, we have you covered. We have come up with 10 things you can do to help you stick to your resolution throughout the year.

Less than 8% of people stick to their resolutions, so why do we bother setting them? We put too much pressure on ourselves, which makes it worse when we fail.

If you’re someone who doesn’t stick to them, It is probably because you aren’t setting the right resolution for you. There are some easy steps you can take to help you stick to your goal throughout the year.

Here are 10 things that will help to stick to your resolution.

1. Don’t choose too many, go with a couple that you think you could stick to rather than have loads. Be realistic with the number of resolutions you set, 2 or 3 is a good amount as it isn't too overwhelming.

2. Don’t be unrealistic, start with a smaller resolution and you’ll be more likely to stick to it. If you have never stuck to them in the past maybe they’re too big of a goal.

3. Make a plan.

4. Set a penalty if you don’t stick to the resolution, something that will keep you motivated.

5. Think of a reward. Come June and you are still doing your resolution, reward yourself. Then at the end of the year, have a bigger reward for completing it.

6. Get support. If you know someone else who is looking to set the same resolution, buddy up and help motivate each other when it gets tough.

7. Learn and adapt to your goals. If the goal is to exercise 4 times a week and within a few months that isn't realistic for your lifestyle, adapt the goal to suit your style of living.

8. Be persistent with it, if you fail once, don’t give up. It's easy to give up after falling at the first hurdle, but keep going.

9. Set the resolutions for the right reason. If they have importance to you, you’re more likely to stick to them. It's about making a change for you.

10. Stay positive. Easier said than done, but staying positive will make your goal more enjoyable. You don't want it to seem like a chore.

Give these tips a go if you are setting a resolution this year, and if you know anyone else setting one, share this with them too. The most important thing is to not put too much pressure on yourself.
