Step outside the norm with our selection of Newcastle’s hidden gems.

Don’t waste any time at dull watering holes when we have the best Newcastle has to offer - all within staggering distance of the beautiful Oxford House Student Accommodation.

Take your pick of these eclectic, cool and curious venues…

The Purple Bear - Smoke House, Beer and Cocktail Joint

Tucked away on on Northumberland Street in the alley opposite McDonald’s. It’s a really cool place with unique decor. Unusual boozy hard milkshakes and Thundercats on the TV plus a massive selection of craft beer and ale and cocktails from all corners of the globe.

Nitehawks Terrace Bar

Hidden in plain site - Nitehawks is clinging onto the corner of the Theatre Royal - blink and you’ll miss it. Open Wednesday to Sunday they are known locally for the best cocktails in Newcastle. We’ll let you be the judge of that! Watch out for their espresso martinis… #CarefulNow

No 28 Newcastle

Chic, warm and dimly atmospheric, No 28 is up a hidden away staircase, tucked inside the entrance to the Grainger Market on Nelson Street. Open 7 days a week No 28 morphs into Studio 28 at the weekend with a live DJ and glitter ball dance floor. Apparently bottomless prosecco is a thing here..

Lola Jeans

Situated in a formerly derelict building at 1-3 Market St, Lola Jeans is stuffed with chandeliers and painted murals by local artists for a really unique interiour. The most beautiful cocktail presentation we’ve ever seen and they put monster munch on loaded fries? Take our money!

Tokyo Newcastle

A seriously cool vibe exists at Tokyo Newcastle - unique cocktails and craft beers alongside specialist Japanese whiskies. Relax on their unique indoor/outdoor rooftop terrace that hosts deep house and nu-disco DJs Wednesday to Saturday.

Tiger Hornsby

Intimate, elegant, friendly and quirky, Tiger Hornsby is situated on the iconic Quayside. A nod to the legendary bars of the 70s, rich velvets and lush decor form the perfect backdrop for experimental cocktails (Cocktail hour daily until 7pm - thank us later) live DJs and soul sessions.

Jesmond Beach Box

Ok so this isn’t exactly hidden - but as the largest bear garden in the city and featuring an actual beach - it deserves a special mention. 8 food vendors and 7 bars cater for a huge variety of tastes. Its family and dog friendly - open 11am to 11pm daily.
